Primary Education:

Elementary Education comprising, primary and upper primary forms the foundation of the education pyramid to strengthen this foundation and to achieve the goal of universal access to quality education for all. The 86th Constitutional Amendment Act 2002 made education a Fundamental Right for children in the age group of 6-14 years by providing that "the State shall provide free and compulsory education to all children of the age of six to fourteen years. The Right of Children to Free and Compulsory Education (RTE) Act, 2009 became operative on 1st April, 2010. Further, to enhance enrollment, retention and attendance and simultaneously improving nutritional levels among children, the major intervention includes ‘National Programme of Mid-Day Meal (MDM) in Schools’.

Samagra Shiksha:

At the same time, the Samagra Shiksha is being implemented to achieve the goals of universal access and retention, bridging of gender and social gaps in enrolment levels and enhancement of learning levels of all children, through provision of community-owned quality education in a mission mode. Setting up of Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalaya, Jharkhand Avasiy Balika Vidyalaya and Residential schools in the block itself to promote girls education..

• Every child in 3-6 year age group is provided inclusive and equitable quality pre-school education
• Every child in 6-10 year age group is provided inclusive and equitable quality primary education

Adult Education:

For promoting Adult and Adolescent Education particularly female literacy, Sakshar Bharat is being implemented. This Mission has four broad objectives, namely :

• impart functional literacy and numeracy to non-literate and non-numerate adults.
• enable the neo-literate adults to continue their learning beyond basic literacy and acquire equivalency to formal educational system.
• impart non and neo-literates relevant skill development programmes to improve their earning and living conditions
• promote a learning society by providing opportunities to neo-literate adults for continuing education.

The School Education and Literacy(SEAL) Department is responsible for implementation of government's vision and mission in elementary and secondary educations.The Department of School Education has a dedicated Directorate of Primary School Education, headed by Director Primary Education which is entrusted with all executive functions concerning Primary School Administration. This enables the Department to function as apex policy making body with the day-to-day administration being looked after by the Directorate.The State of Jharkhand has made significant efforts to improve the extent of access to Primary Education.

Education has continued to evolve, diversify and extend its reach and coverage since the dawn of human history. Every country develops its system of education to express and promote its unique socio-cultural identity and also to meet the challenges of the times World Declaration on Education for All (1990) stressed upon the need to provide expanded educational opportunities that will translate into meaningful development. A stronger base of the country will lead to a brighter.

Jharkhand State Mid Day Meal Authority was constituted on 31st March 2014. This is a society registered under society registration Act, 1860. The objective of this institution is to implement Mid Day Meal Scheme in the State. Under this scheme hot cooked meal is served in all Govt. Primary & Middle Schools, Govt. Aided school, Recognised Madarsa & Sanskrit Schools, Special Training Centres.

This is a centrally sponsored program. The expenditure is being borne in the financial pattern of 60:40 between centre and the state govt. for cooking cost & honorarium to the cook cum helper whereas Foodgrains, Cost of Foodgrain, Transportation Cost are Provided entirely by the Govt. of India.

The National Policy on Education (NPE) envisaged teacher education as a continuous process with pre-service and in-service training being its inseparable components. It emphasized the significance and need for a decentralized system for the professional preparation of teachers, and it was in this context that District Institutes of Education and Training (DIETs), Colleges of Teacher Education (CTEs) and Institutes of Advanced Study in Education (IASEs) were established.
