Govt. Women’s Polytechnic, Ranchi is situated in Tharpakhna area of the newly made state of Jharkhand. It is the centrally located area of the main city of Ranchi i.e. only about 1 k.m. away from the famous Albert Ekka Chowk towards East on Hazaribagh Road, Railway Station is about 5 k.m. and Birsa Bus Stand, Khad Garha is about 3 k.m. from the campus of the institution. Birsa Munda Airport is about 10 k.m. from the Institution. It is conveniently linked with the local transport system which provides easy access to the students to the institution. Hospitals, Post-Office, Banks and ATMs are also situated nearby.
This institution was started in 1974 as the first Women’s Polytechnic of undivided Bihar State and is now the prime Polytechnic of Jharkhand State. Though the campus of the institution is very small (c.5384 Sq.m) compared to any other Polytechnic of the state the institution comprises necessary facilities required for the students like different laboratories, furniture, equipment, library etc. In the beginning the institution was opened only with two branches of 3 year Diploma studies; Electronics & Communication Engg. and Secretarial Practice & Stenography. But at present it provides 3 year Diploma courses in 3 branches.
Since its inception the institution has trained many Women candidates and many of them are now employed in state Govt., Central Govt., Private & Public Sectors such as Radio Stations, TV Centres, Telephone Exchange, A.A.I., P&T, Tisco, Railways, C.C.L., Electricity Deptts. B.S.N.L. etc. |
