Govt. Women’s Polytechnic, Bokaro

Govt. Women’s Polytechnic, Bokaro a premier technical institution located in the one the most important industrial cities of the tribal zone of Jharkhand was established in 1986 to cater the emerging need of technicians in streams like Computer Science & Engg. Instrumentation & Control, Information Technology, Interior Decoration & Design, Modern Office Practice. In addition to this two branches Electronics & Communication and Electrical & Electronics a also introduces in the academic year 06-07.
The institute is spread over in sprawling 10.93 acres newly acquired campus with 8250.03 Sq meters built up area. However residential portion phase II construction which includes hostels and other constructed. A centrally sponsored community polytechnic scheme of ministry of Human resources development, Govt. of India, has been established under the administrative control of the institution to fulfill the social commitment of this technical institution in general and its work force in particular. This is the only institute in Jharkhand which includes the disabled person in main stream of society.
This institute includes formal and non-formal courses. Under formal courses students are reading in seven branches of three year diploma course. Under non-formal students of rural areas taking knowledge and skill in different courses.

Industries in the vicinity

Bokaro is one of the most important industrial cities of Jharkhand at about 60 kms from Dhanbad towards south-west on Dhanbad-Ramgarh National highway, the Bokaro Steel Plant under Steel Authority of India Limited, various coal fields and mines, thermal power station and other industrial units have resulted in the rapid growth of the population in the area and its economy. The original area has tribal out look and require guidance and training for skill upgradation for its long self development.

Hostel

A fully furnished residential complex ensconced in the Institute premises with all modern facilities supplements the academic infrastructure. Two separate hostels for girls have a cumulative capacity of 120 beds. The mess is equipped to serve around 100 people at a time. This setup creates an informal atmosphere for fruitful interaction and allows the students to put in extra hour of effort. It also encourages group interaction and out-of-classroom learning.
