The new state Jharkhand, formerly a part of Bihar state, was formed on November 15th, 2000 with Ranchi as its capital. Jharkhand is the 28th state of the Indian Union. Ranchi, the capital of Jharkhand, is located at a height of 2100 ft above sea level in the heart of the Chotanagpur tribal area. Today it is a fast growing city with industries and major educational institutes grooming in and around it. Ranchi attracts tourists for its comfortable weather, healthy environment and proximity to beautiful waterfalls, lakes and hills.

The newly carved out resource rich State of Jharkhand is widely acclaimed as the region of the future, having immense potential for industrialisation with its large deposits of minerals. It is one of the richest zones of minerals in the world. Though Jharkhand State is endowed with vast and rich natural resources, mainly those of minerals and forest, 80% of its population residing in villages & depend mainly on agriculture and allied activities for their livelihood. One of the main strategies of Government of Jharkhand for development of the State is to ensure agricultural and rural development on sustainable basis.

The Government of Jharkhand, recognising the impressive growth of the Information Technology(IT) sector in the country, has resolved to make Jharkhand an "IT Powerhouse" and a front runner in the Information Revolution. The government considers IT as an agent of transformation for every facet of human life which will bring about a knowledge based society. Towards the goal of "IT for All" by 2010, policies are provided for setting the base for a rapid spread of IT awareness among the citizens, propagation of IT literacy, training etc in the use of day-to-day IT services .
