Policy initiatives of the State Government |

Following are the sailent initiatives taken by State Government to develope and conserve the forests :
- Government of Jharkhand (GOJ) has issued a comprehensive joint Forest Management (JFM) resolution in September 2001 to ensure people's participation in protection, conservation and development of forests.
- To enhance people's participation 35 Forest Development Agencies in all the Territorial and Wildlife divisions have been Constituted and Registered under Societies Registration act, 1860.
- Entry - point activities have been made an integral part of all the plantation schemes to ensure people's co - operation in forestry activities.
- Jharkhand Participatory Forestry Project has been posed to the World Bank. The PFP phase of the project has been started.
- Rehabilitation of degraded forests on large scale is being undertaken.
- Large - scale plantation of Bamboo has been taken up.
- To increase Lac & Tasar production, plantations of Lac & Tasar host species have been taken up. Forest Department has been made the nodal Department for the development of Lac and Tasar in the state.
- To ensure the availability of superior quality planting stocks of timber and fruit tree species, 187 permanent nurseries have been established in 138 blocks of the state.
- Establishment of research nurseries for root - trainer plants, grafts of Amla, Mango, Imli etc and for vegitative propagation of bamboo.
- Forest Resources Survey of different forest divisions and Medicinal plant survey of different districts have been undertaken.
- GIS cell at Ranchi has been strengthened to digitize cadastral sheets, toposheets etc.
- State Medicinal Plant Board has been constituted on 17.2.2003.
- Jharkhand state Pollution Control Board (PCB) has been constituted on 9.9.2001.
- Compensation for loss of human lives due to wild animals has been increased from Rs 20,000 to Rs 1,00,000. In addition, compensation for damage of house property, crops and cattle has also been provided.
